I’M
A STUDENT OF “ARTS”
&
I’M NOT A TERRORIST
-Vivek Choudhury
Last
night when I was travelling in a bus I eavesdropped on to the conversation of
my fellow passengers at the back seat. They were a couple who were worried
about their sons’ stream selection after class 10th exams. While to
salvage their social pride they wanted their son to take up science but again
they were aware of the fact that their son was weak in Maths. All of the conversation
made me to write on this grave issue of stream selection.
Every
guardian want their children to take up science or commerce as the stream of
study after 10th.Well ARTS? People don’t regard it as an element to study!
You may blame it on the stereotypical nature of our society which leads to such
prejudice. I myself am a student of Arts stream and hence I have faced such
unfair attitudes of people being subjected towards me. Relatives, Friends, foes
or the society, everyone reacts negatively when they hear ARTS! A student
reading in Arts stream even if acquires 90% then also is compared as
downtrodden to a Science student who aggregates a 60%! With CBSE removing any
mark barrier for selection of streams after 10th, students with 40%
marks go to Science! Students with higher percentages are in Arts than in Science,
yet they (SCIENCE STUDENTS) regard themselves as superior to ARTS
candidates(Funny yet true to its every bit)!We the Students of ARTS are made to
contrite in every situation of our life just because we have taken Arts…Respect
for our studies?? Huh! That only feels like a mirage which ends up in utter
disappointment.
With
Carrier in Arts booming day-by-day it’s nothing below than Science or Commerce.
We ARTS students are nothing less than the others. We just plead for one thing
and that is “RESPECT FOR OUR STUDIES”.
